If there’s a facial mask out there, you better believe I’m gonna be getting my hands on it. My problem (read: congested) skin requires me to try any and all masks on planet earth (or could just my OCD). SO my all-time & cult favorite mask company, GlamGlow, recently released another brand new all-star product called PowerMud Dualcleanse Treatment. It’s a special clay mask that turns into an oil cleanser when you wet it, A.K.A. GENIUS. I never tried oil cleansers but have been seriously investigating them for a few weeks now and then saw this mask and figured it would be a perfect introduction to the whole concept. And boy, was it.

I have oily, clogged pores without much dryness at all so I thought this would be the perfect middle ground between their Supermud (detoxifying) and Thirstymud (hydrating) masks. I have used it about 4 times so far and I absolutely love it. I spread a thin layer on my skin and let it try about 20 minutes even though the container recommends 5-10. The smell if it is just plain incredible which GlamGlow describes as pear, I believe. The mask is mostly smooth in consistency but has a very small amount of exfoliating bits.  I wouldn’t even consider them really doing much exfoliating on my skin but they do feel nice when you wet your skin and start massaging around the ‘oil’ before rinsing. I follow up with my usual evening moisturizer, Boscia’s Oil-Free Nightly Hydration.

The next morning, I noticed that it was quite hydrated. I never notice that in my skin because I’m always using more of a drying product (and yes, I do moisturize twice daily) but my face just felt a bit plumper. I think this is an excellent gentle-yet-detoxifying addition as my skin is slowly becoming a bit more combo (thank god). It’s honestly just perfect for combo skin but would recommend everyone giving it a try. Even if you have dry skin, the detoxifying clay is followed by the gentle oils which would provide the moisture those types of skin require. I even use it as a spot-treatment if I don’t feel like doing a full face. 😛

I will absoluttttely be using this weekly instead of my other GlamGlow masks because it’s the best of both worlds. I give it a huge thumbs up, even though it’s rather pricey – I got mine online at Sephora for $69 for the 1.7oz, which is the same size as my other GlamGlows. Please let me know if you give it a try and your experiences!

OH HAY GIEZ

Winter Hair Favorite

I want to share the most recent hair care products that I have been loving. Here’s a bit of info on my hair: I have very long, naturally straight-mildly wavy fine hair that gets oily rather fast. I professionally color my hair about every 6-8 weeks and trim every 12-18 weeks. I wash my hair every other day and do not blow-dry my hair. I’ll sometimes use a straightener to smooth everything out if I’m feeling ambitious in the morning.

Styling Products

BATISTE DRY SHAMPOO It’s been moderately difficult to adjust to an every-other-day shampoo routine, but Batiste dry shampoo has literally saved me from a greasy meltdown on multiple occasions. This stuff is amazing – which is no secret – and costs less than $10. I find mine at TJ Maxx or Marshalls for around $5.99 which is better than Ulta or the drugstores where it costs around $8. Amazon sells it as well, if I’m feeling super lazy… I use Prime 2-day shipping. I buy both the Light & Blonde and Crisp and Clean Fresh scents. The blonde one has a slight tint which does double-duty covering up any regrowth between hair appointments… and I can’t say enough good things about that. Ulta sells a travel-size for $3.99 which I also carry in my purse for a super-911 gross hair emergency. Don’t say it doesn’t happen!

PAUL MITCHELL HOT OFF THE PRESS THERMAL PROTECTION SPRAY This stuff smells incredible and doubles as a light hold hairspray and thermal heat protectant. I get mine at a beauty supply store but it’s also available here for under $20. It’s especially awesome if you want to curl your hair and have fine, long hair like mine. You can spray each section as you go and it helps hold your style in place while allows your hair to remain touchable and soft. Oh, and did I mention the scent?! It’s … delightful.

JOSIE MARAN 100% PURE ARGAN OIL Sure, this product is expensive at $48 for a full size bottle. Could I find another one? Maybe. But it’s so multi-purpose (skin, hair, nails) that it just makes it all ok in the end. I tried it when I found a small size available during the holidays for $5 at Sephora (regularly $14). I’d rather be able to use it to fix any beauty woe than spend more on multiple products. I use this specifically on the ends of my hair after I’ve straightened it to add moisture back or sometimes just to smooth everything out a bit. When I’m done, I just rub the leftovers into my hands and nails. It’s a beautiful thing.

Shampoo/Conditioner/Treatments

MACADAMIA DEEP HAIR MASQUE This hair masque is expensive but worth the hype. I leave it on my hair while I finish doing all the many things girls are required to do. It leaves my hair soft (but not too soft which is also a thing) and smelling incredible. It’s thick and feels great. Target sells it and often has a promotion for buy 1 get 1 free which is THE TIME to buy. Ulta sells it regularly for $33.

ITS A 10 MIRACLE HAIR MASK I bought this on a whim, while waiting for the Macadamia one to arrive in the mail. This is also amazing and I switch between these two masks on a weekly basis. This mask seems to leave my hair soft but also smooths the cuticle a little more. It’s a little cheaper than the Macadamia masque at under $20 from Amazon.

PAUL MITCHELL PLATINUM BLONDE SHAMPOO I’ve always wanted to try a violet shampoo just to neutralize any brassiness that can sometimes sneak up on us blondes. This one smells like cantaloupe and lilacs (strange but I absolutely love and HUFF it in the shower). I’m not sure if it’s really working as far as removing any brassiness but I know that my blonde is a really nice shade where I am going to thank both my stylist and this shampoo. It’s available for around $15 on Amazon.

PAUL MITCHELL KERACTIVE FOREVER BLONDE CONDITIONER While this conditioner is meant for daily use, it feels more like a deeper conditioner to me which I love. I imagine it’s to combat the damage that most blondes experience and that it’s a “Keractive” product. I love this stuff and will definitely repurchase it. You can find it on Amazon for around $12!

Is there a hair product that you recently found and love? I am forever up to trying new stuff!
